An interesting discussion from OnTheMEDIA

MARCH 1, 2017 This Gene Was Edited By Brooke CRISPR is a new technology that enables scientists to quickly alter the genetic makeup of the entire population of a species. It's so powerful that just one genetically-modified mosquito could eradicate malaria. It's so easy to do that a grad student cou...

Re: Does Destroying Great Salt Lake Mean Destroying Utah Ski

In addition to the effects on snowfall in the Wasatch, when/if the GSL dries up, Salt Lake City's air quality will become much worse. This is because the west winds that sweep across will pick up all kinds of particulates, some containing toxic elements like arsenic, and dump them into the Salt Lake...

RE:When Wall Street Owns Main Street _Ch.7

The NYTimes on Sunday Dec.11 published an excellent example of Faroohar's "...dynamic, in which those without lots of cash and stellar credit (which is most people) have been left unable to buy homes, while Wall Street is able to continue to shape the housing market in ways that aren't necessarily t...

Re: Book Review by the Dean of The Harvard Business School

I find the Dean's argument to fall prey to the Fallacy of the False Alternative. I did not read Ms. Foroohar's position as condemning the enterprise of finance wholesale, as the Dean's review appears to assume from its title: Imagine An Economy Without Wall Street. Absent Finance, Most People Can’t ...

Re: Behavioral Economic Theory and In Particular Prospect Th

I volunteer to try to flesh out the arguments in Chapter 2: The Fall of Business, with examples in particular from the Pharmaceutical industry. I challenge the rest of you to take other chapters and see if we can convince John that some of the author's "alleged facts" are facts indeed.

Behavioral Economic Theory and In Particular Prospect Theory

Re: Suggested Answers to Q13

Just FYI, when "herpes virus" is used in tumor OR other therapy, it is not at all the "wild-type" virus. So I would not recommend that anyone with melanoma contract wild-type herpes (of any strain)! I assume John was referring to Imlygic, a genetically modified live oncolytic herpes virus therapy. I...
