What an important subject, John.

One on one mentorship is the only avenue out for these children. We see that here, too, in the impoverished communities of the Windward Islands. The remnants of slavery (untrained, denegrated, denuded of self-dignity), generations of people, resorting to thievery to survive. It is a self-perpetuating situation changed only through one to one intervention and significant incentive programs to stay in school.
