Attached is the U.S. Surgeon General's 184-page 2012 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention.

It is the second such National Strategy. The first was issued by the U.S. Surgeon General in 2001.

A quick read of the 2012 National Strategy does NOT evince a conclusion in the report that suicide is always the result of a mental-health impairment. However, it does list mental-health impairments and drug abuse as "risk factors."

Some interesting facts from the Report =

(1) The U.S. averaged 33,000 suicides/year from 2001-2009,

(2) This is more than the number of Americans who died from motor-vehicle accidents,

(3) Suicide is among the top five causes of death for adults under age 45 in the U.S.
