In my introductory editorial comments before posting the opinion of a couple hours ago of the NY Times Public Editor, I noted among other things that Ayaan Hirsi Ali herself speaks in "Infidel" of the Islamic Law requirement for every Muslim to kill Apostates.

But noted that unfortunately I could not locate Ayaan's statement but had a 7-hour plane ride this evening to find it and would post the page citation tomorrow.

The reason for not being able to find it immediately is that I had been scanning Infidel's Chapter 14 entitled "Leaving God." If I had a better memory, I would have remembered Ayaan's statement was in Chapter 15 entitled "Threats" and only a few more minutes of perserverence were required!!!

Chapter 15 entitled "Threats" says on page 288 with respect a television interview --

"Next I was asked, 'But are you still a Muslim?' Now I felt truly on the spot. And once again I avoided a direct repudiation of Islam, answering instead, 'I am secularized.'

"I did not feel strong enough to face what would have happend if I said, out loud, that I no longer believed. For a Muslim, to be an apostate is the worst thing possible. Christians can cease to believe in God; that is a personal matter that affects only their eternal soul. But for a Muslim to cease believing in Allah is a lethal offence. APOSTATES MERIT DEATH: ON THAT, THE QURAN AND THE HADITH ARE CLEAR."

(Emphasis added.)

If Ayaan Hirsi Ali is correct that the Quran and The Hadith are clear, how is it that the "experts" cited by the NY Times Public Editor are ignorant of these facts.

The NY Times Public Editor should resign for such shoddy reporting!!!
