America’s ruling elite fails to recognize –

(1) Donald Trump’s 2016 electoral victory was fueled by flipping 6 states, 5 of which were in the “Rust Belt.”

(2) The basis of his “America First” appeal was IMHO his campaigning against what we have called 24 years of “EXPORTING AMERICAN JOBS.”

(3) His continuing appeal to American workers is IMHO their faith in his willingness to oppose America’s ruling elite and his record of “RE-CAPTURING AMERICAN JOBS.”

Robert Lighthizer was President Trump’s International Trade Representative who negotiated most of the deals that re-captured American jobs.

Author Bio

After receiving his law degree from Georgetown U in 1973, he joined Washington DC’s most-prestigious law firm, Covington & Burling.

He left the firm in 1978 to serve as chief minority counsel and later staff director and chief of staff of the Senate Committee on Finance under Chairman Bob Dole.

In 1983, Robert Lighthizer was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative for President Ronald Reagan. During his tenure, Lighthizer negotiated over two dozen bilateral international agreements, including agreements on steel, automobiles, and agricultural products. As Deputy USTR, Lighthizer also served as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation which was the US Gov’s agency for providing insurance for US ventures in emerging markets.

From 1985-2017, Lighthizer was a partner in America’s most-prestigious mergers-and-acquisitions law firm, Skadden Arps, where he led the firm’s international-trade group -- working to expand markets for U.S. exports and defending U.S. industries from unfair trading practices. He defended the steel industry in particular.

Three days after becoming U.S. Trade Representative on 5/18/2017, Lighthizer notified Congress that President Trump intended to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which would make Lighthizer the first USTR to renegotiate a major U.S. free trade agreement.

Following the end of the Trump Administration, Lighthizer retired (except for book writing) to Palm Beach FL.
