I propose that we read Kevin Rudd’s “The Avoidable War: The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict between the US and Xi Jinping's China” (Public Affairs Publishing 3/22/2022 – 400 pages sans index (NB: no notes) – Hardcover $17.89, Paperback $29.58 or $21.99 Kindle from Amazon.com).

NB: This is a de facto sequel to Kevin Rudd”s “On Xi Jinping: How Xi’s Marxist Nationalism Is Shaping China And The World” which was our focus book for 3/19/2024.

Yes, “On Xi Jinping” was published on 10/15/2024 by the Oxford University Press.

But it was an elaboration of his 2017-2022 PhD Thesis at Oxford entitled “China's new Marxist nationalism: defining Xi Jinping's ideological worldview."

And per “On Zi Jinping,” Kevin Rudd thinks “Xi Jinping Thought” puts China on a collision course with the U.S. and the West.

Accordingly, it should be interesting to discover why Rudd thinks in “The Avoidable War” that China is NOT on a collision course with the U.S. and the West.

And what conditions the U.S. and the West would have to suffer in order to avoid “The Avoidable War.”

Kevin Rudd is president and CEO of Asia Society and has been president of the Asia Society Policy Institute since January 2015. He served as Australia's 26th Prime Minister from 2007 to 2010, then as Foreign Minister from 2010 to 2012, before returning as Prime Minister in 2013. Rudd graduated from the Australian National University with honors in Chinese studies, and is fluent in Mandarin. He also studied at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei.
