Dear John,

I’ve just finished re-reading the Suggested Answers to all three of your Short Quizzes.

It strikes me that Ruth Simmons’ autobiography has a lot to do with --

“Inner-City Holocaust and America's Apartheid ‘Justice’ System (In Honor of Jonathan Kozol and In Memory of John Howard Griffin)” --

the title of Sections 4 and 5 of our website at www.ReadingLiberally-SaltLake.org.

Isn’t Ruth Simmons’ autobiography “looking through the other end of a telescope” at a child in one of America’s inner cities -- vs. looking at the “I Have A Dream ”® Foundation which oversaw during the 1990’s in 51 inner-cities or public-housing projects 178 programs, each of which –

• Adopted ALL of the third graders in an inner-city school or ALL of the third graders in a public housing project; and

• Provided each “Dreamer” with a tutor and a mentor from third grade through High School graduation with a guarantee of college tuition; and

• Despite SINGLE-DIGIT high school graduation rates for the class just ahead and just behind the Dreamer” Class, typically produced 90% HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION - COLLEGE MATRICULATION RATES!!!

So how did Ruth Simmons’ circumstances differ from the typical “Dreamer”?

And do you think the current emphasis by many politicians on “school choice” will be as successful as the old “I Have A Dream”® Programs?

Your friend,

Dear Solutions,

Thank you very much for your e-mail.

How Ruth Simmons’ Circumstances Differed From The Typical “Dreamer”?

Ruth had tremendous support, not only from her family, but also from her many teachers who became mentors.

In stark contrast, the typical conditions faced by those 178 IHAD projects in 51 American inner-cities as I personally witnessed from visiting the overwhelming majority as volunteer national treasurer (in addition to reports from the remainder) –

• 95% of those Dreamers lived in single-adult households headed by druggies!!!

• 75%-80% of whom turned over any receipts to the pusher so the kids had to steal just in order to eat!!!

• The children knowing by Kindergarten that they were NOT eligible for their dreams and that their only realistic career objectives were pusher or pimp, or girl friend of a pusher or pimp graduating to whore – none of which requires much education!!!

*****
The key???

Our tutors and mentors became SURROGATE PARENTS who told their Dreamers early and often that they could make something of themselves with this program AND IT WOULD BREAK THE HEART of the tutor/mentor if the Dreamer didn’t.

“School Choice” Doomed – Surrogate Parents Essential

It should be obvious that IMHO surrogate parents mentoring/tutoring each child are essential!!!

So are the pols SO STUPID that they actually believe that enabling a child to transfer to a school that has more successful stats – is going to magically produce a surrogate-parent tutor and mentor for each transferor???

Or are they so cynical that they think the public is SO STUPID as to believe such a slogan???

*****
BTW, any governmental solution is virtually impossible in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2007 decision in Parents vs. Seattle School Dist. No. 1 that -- “Achieving racially balanced school districts does not amount to a compelling government interest that satisfies strict scrutiny.”!!!

Or in plain English, bussing is unconstitutional – and school districts that serve segregated communities based on zoning laws are “just peachy”!!!

We have tried to invent possible governmental solutions and always encountered nightmares!!!

So of course, it is UTTERLY SHAMEFUL that Pres. Obama opposed my lawsuits against 15 of the world’s largest financial institutions for the $84 billion that they owed me and that had long since been pledged in legally-binding fashion to provide “I Have A Dream ”® Programs for 10 million inner-city children.

[Details are posted, as you mentioned, in Sections 4 & 5 of www.ReadingLiberally-SaltLake.org.]

I am sorry that Obama, who was well aware of more than a dozen “I Have A Dream ”® Programs on the South Side of Chicago where he likes to brag he was a “community organizer” before becoming a politician – virtually all of which programs were sponsored no-thanks to Obama, by Chicago-based United Airlines (no-thanks to Obama because they were formed before Obama became a “community organizer”) – NONETHELESS OPPOSED MY LAWSUITS AGAINST 15 OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS FOR THE $84 BILLION THEY OWED ME AND THAT HAD LONG SINCE BEEN PLEDGED IN LEGALLY-BINDING FASHION TO PROVIDE ‘I HAVE A DREAM’® PROGRAMS FOR 10 MILLION INNER-CITY CHILDREN.”

I am NOT sorry that I cannot be gracious to Obama and have often on our website said –

“Although long may he live, his epitaph should read –

Barack Hussein Obama
America’s First “Token” Black President
He “Knew His Place” on The Establishment’s “Plantation”
He Condemned 10 Million Inner-City Children to “A Fate Worse Than Death”

*****
For anyone who thinks I should be gracious and forgive Obama –

• It is NOT for me to forgive him!!!

• Obama must seek his forgiveness from each of the 10 million inner-city children that he condemned to “a fate worse than death”!!!

Dear John,

Your e-mail of earlier this evening claimed that --

“Obama, who was well aware of more than a dozen ‘I Have A Dream’® Programs on the South Side of Chicago where he likes to brag he was a ‘community organizer’ before becoming a politician – virtually all of which programs were sponsored no-thanks to Obama, by Chicago-based United Airlines (no-thanks to Obama because they were formed before Obama became a ‘community organizer’) – NONETHELESS OPPOSED MY LAWSUITS AGAINST 15 OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS FOR THE $84 BILLION THEY OWED ME AND THAT HAD LONG SINCE BEEN PLEDGED IN LEGALLY-BINDING FASHION TO PROVIDE ‘I HAVE A DREAM’® PROGRAMS FOR 10 MILLION INNER-CITY CHILDREN.”

I thought that Eugene Lang (the self-made multi-billionaire who founded IHAD patterned after his 1981 promise to the graduating sixth graders of his Alma Mater, Harlem P.S. 121, that if they stayed in school, he would pay their college tuition) --

had a strict rule that IHAD programs (like your IHAD-Stamford CT program that served 200 public-housing-project children) HAD TO BE SPONSORED/GUARANTEED by a substantial individual like you (the Ernst & Young Chief International Tax Partner (Technical)) to avoid the possible scam of a corporate guarantor that declares bankruptcy.

Please explain your comment about United Airlines.

Dear Solutions,

Thank you very much for your e-mail.

Yes, you are correct about Gene’s policy.

BTW, virtually all of the other 177 sponsors/guarantors were CEO’s of major corporations.

In the case of the Chicago South Side IHAD Programs, United Airlines was able to satisfy Gene by fronting one of their top executives to be the sponsor/guarantor of each IHAD Program.

My understanding of how this worked was that United Airlines adopted a policy that –

• Any United Airlines top executive could volunteer as the sponsor/guarantor of an IHAD Program;

• United Airlines would bear the financial burden of the executive’s guarantee; and

• United Airlines would strongly encourage all of its employees (including noting as an item in their annual performance reviews) whether each had volunteered as a tutor/mentor and had also recruited friends & acquaintances to also volunteer.

• HOWEVER, each of the top executives was on the hook financially if United Airlines declared bankruptcy – as it in fact did 12/9/2002 in order, like all of the other “legacy carriers,” to rid itself of its exorbitant pilot salaries when faced with competition from the newbies with reasonable pilot salaries (like JetBlue).

• AND most of the United Airlines “Dreamers” were in college by 2002 by which time all of the United Airlines IHAD endowment-fund requirements had long since been satisfied.

I hope that answers your question – after all, good business people tend to be good problem solvers.

Thank you again for your e-mail.

Your friend,

John K.
