Suggested Discussion Outline

Post by johnkarls »

.
Traditionally, each month’s Suggested Discussion Outline has comprised 2-3 parts – 60 minutes for each of Parts A and B with subtractions to accommodate any Sec. C Proposals –

A. Comments About Specific Chapters of the Focus Book – going through them chapter-by-chapter.

B. Further Discussion – of Questions in the Short Quizzes for which the Suggested Answers were “What Do You Think??? Let’s Discuss!!!”

C. Possible Public-Policy Campaigns Directed At Decision Makers – flexible minutes from Sections A & B if there are any proposals.

Part C – Possible Public-Policy Campaigns

From Yours Truly – none.

Indeed, “Half American” became the focus book for Jan 22 because a dozen or so of our members inquired what Yours Truly was reading currently.

And in an exchange of e-mails in which Solutions inquired why Yours Truly had never proposed “Half American” in Sec. C of www.ReadingLiberally-SaltLake.org (“Possible Topics for Future Meetings”), Yours Truly explained that our author was too good a historian focusing solely on American minimization of Black participation in the World War II war effort – and we have focused beau coup times on what Post-World War II Black participation in the military (the so-called “All Volunteer Force”) has done to America’s inner-city ghettos – please see the e-mail exchange at viewtopic.php?f=833&t=2576&sid=cdb23995 ... f13b452b8b.

Additional Campaigns???

If anyone has any additional proposals, please post them in this “Discussion Outline” section of our website - hopefully, 24 hours in advance so that participants can give them proper consideration.

THOUGH, OF COURSE, CAMPAIGNS THAT ARE CONCEIVED SPONTANEOUSLY DURING A MEETING ARE NOT PROHIBITED.

Parts A and B

It is respectfully suggested that these parts be merged for Jan 22.

Yes, each of the four Short Quizzes contained many questions for which the Suggested Answer was “What Do You Think??? Let’s Discuss!!!”

HOWEVER, each Short Quiz began with the admonition – “It is respectfully suggested that you make a list of your own questions that are provoked – since all of us are unique and your questions are worth discussing also!!!”

AND with four short quizzes plus the Bonus Short Quiz on Kerry Washington’s new movie “The Six Triple Eight” about the only Black WAC unit sent abroad during World War II, it seems more manageable to combine Parts A and B.

After all, if nobody is interested in any Short Quiz question for which the answer was “What Do You Think??? Let’s Discuss!!!” then let’s not waste time on it.

SO PLEASE, EVERYONE, ADD TO YOUR LIST OF QUESTIONS YOU WERE ADMONISHED TO CREATE (please see the third paragraph of this section), ANY SHORT QUIZ QUESTIONS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS – AND WE’LL BE “OFF AND RUNNING” WITH YOURS TRULY TRYING TO PACE OURSELVES SO THAT WE COVER THE ENTIRE BOOK DURING OUR 120 MINUTES WITH A BIT LEFT OVER FOR KERRY WASHINGTON’S “SIX TRIPLE EIGHT’ MOVIE.

Each of the Short Quizzes and Suggested Answers are accessible through the Menu at viewforum.php?f=833&sid=85e9bfa844cd822 ... a8c64b4a64,
